La Serafina de José Mor de Fuentes se presenta generalmente como una novela epistolar “sentimental” o “didáctica”. Al restar el fervoroso subjetivismo del protagonista, su exaltación de la pasión, y su prosa personal y castiza, el estudio se propone examinar algunos rasgos que hasta ahora no se han tomado en consideración y que permiten juzgar la obra de Mor también como composición romántica (o al menos prerromántica), en el panorama de la novelística española de finales del siglo XVIII.
